The exterior of the church is made of copper plates. Due to the climate conditions, the color of the plates is now almost black.

The interior is totally white and the walls don’t have a single painting on them. On the 1960s the old church of Haparanda burned down and the architect Bengt Larsson wanted to create a modern church to its place.

The church has an audio guide in Finnish, Swedish, English, and German.
