HaparandaTornio has good traffic connections with the E4 highway passing through the towns. If you arrive by car, getting around is very straightforward.

By bus
Buses in Sweden
Timetables for buses in Sweden are available at Länstrafiken. It is not possible to buy a ticket at Länstrafiken website. If you want to take the bus from Haparanda, please choose the departure from Haparanda Tornio Travel Centre LTN. Swedish timetables are in Swedish time which is one hour after Finnish time.
You can only pay with a credit card on Swedish buses (no cash accepted). The Bussgods company located at the Travel Centre sells tickets with a credit card and Swedish crowns.
Buses in Finland
Timetables for buses in Finland are available on the Matkahuolto website. Departures are in Finnish time which is one hour ahead of Swedish time. You can buy tickets on the Matkahuolto website. You need to choose the departure from Tornio.
The Matkahuolto office is situated in Tornio, Teollisuuskatu 8-10. They sell bus and train tickets. You can pay with a credit card, in Euros and Swedish crowns. Most buses accept credit cards.
City buses
Citybus Kaupunkilinja operates in the central town area of Tornio.
The local bus in Haparanda is called Ringlinjen and you can change from one bus to another at the Travel Centre or Rajalla-På Gränsen Shopping Center. The buses don’t run during school holidays.
By Bicycle
It is easy to get around by bicycle in the HaparandaTornio city area. There are also great routes whether you want to get to the archipelago or up by the river banks.
If you are arriving by bicycle from the south to Tornio, take route 921 from Kemi. Arriving from the north you can take the E8 or E75 roads. The northbound road 99 is suitable for bikes arriving from Luleå.

By plane
The nearest airport Kemi-Tornio is located in Kemi. Flights are operated by Finnair. The airport taxi company Meri-Lapin Taksi takes you to TornioHaparanda. Taxis must be booked in advance.
Other airports, within 130 kilometre radius, are Oulu and Rovaniemi in Finland and Luleå in Sweden
By train
A train connection from Luleå to Haparanda opened in April 2021. There are three departures daily by Norrtåg and now you can travel from Stockholm up to HaparandaTornio. In Finland, trains going to Kolari stop at Tornio Itäinen (East) train station. From Kemi train station, there is a bus connection to HaparandaTornio.
