Border Pride will take place for the ninth time in the Tornio-Haaparanta & Kemi area on September 1-7, 2025.
Border Pride is an equality event that aims to make sexual and gender minorities visible by raising awareness of diversity, stimulating discussion and shedding light on life through the eyes of rainbow people.
This year’s theme in particular is to bring people from different backgrounds to the same table and spark a discussion on how we all have more similarities than differences, despite our different backgrounds.
Border Pride week will feature a range of cultural events such as art workshops, guided tours and exhibitions. Other events include various debates and café takeovers. There are also plans to organize activities for local youth in the form of a soda fountain. There are also plans to organize an evening party for people over 18 in Kemi.
The main event of the week will be a parade on Saturday, September 6.
The parade will start from Haaparanta Square and end with a park party behind the Aine Art Museum. In the park, there will be an autumn picnic with tables representing different organizations, associations and shops, as well as the usual Happy Faces Tornio face painting. The program often includes musical performances by local artists and a discussion panel.
