The Marriage of Figaro is one of Mozart’s most beloved operas, full of love and comedy. This timeless comedy returns to cinemas worldwide on 26 April, live from the Metropolitan Opera.

The Marriage of Figaro brings together Mozart’s musical highlights with one of the best librettos of all time. In adapting the play, which caused a scandal with its revolutionary approach to 17th century society, librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte focused less on original references and more on the timeless issues inherent in everyday comedy. The Marriage of Figaro premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna in 1786.

Conductor Joana Mallwitz makes her Met debut and takes the baton for a brilliant ensemble. American bass-baritone Michael Sumuel is the intelligent servant Figaro and Ukrainian soprano Olga Kulchynska is the cunning servant Susanna.

Canadian baritone Joshua Hopkins is the feminine Count, Italian soprano Federica Lombardi his tormented wife and Sun-Ly Pierce the young servant Cherubino.
