Kukkolakoski – raft traditional winter hobby is fishing on ‘merta’ – fish traps. ‘Merta’ is a local name for a trap which used for a burbot fishing. The burbot (Lota lota) is the only gadiform freshwater fish. Burbots live in large, cold rivers, primarily preferring freshwater habitats. The name burbot comes from the Latin word barba, meaning beard.
